    “Picking up pawpaws, put em’ in your pocket, way down yonder in the pawpaw patch.” That old familiar Appalachian Trail tune is a melody of the ages. Meet a Naturalist in front of the Mansion for an afternoon walk with a chance to learn about the largest native North American fruit, the pawpaw.

    Participants create their own handmade blankets from start to finish. This hands-on experience encourages creativity, teamwork, and pride in making something unique with their own skills.

  • Mushroom Identification Hike – Adventure Awaits

    Join a Naturalist for an afternoon walk at Detweiler Park. Search for mushrooms and fungus while hiking the trails. Learn a few fun facts about the specimens discovered and how these organisms are vital to the survival of our forests.

  • Penn State Extension Master Gardener Gardening with Insects Series –Biocontrol with Predatory Insects (Virtual Program)

    Led by Angela Hartley, Master Gardener of Dauphin County, the program is part of the Gardening with Insects series and features locally relevant imagery of insects photographed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

  • Penn State Extension Master Gardener Walk & Talk – Park Rx

    Join Penn State Master Gardeners with a leisurely stroll to learn about the trees and plants at The Harrisburg Cemetery Arboretum.

  • Macabre Mansion Tour

    Join us after hours for a tour of the historic Fort Hunter Mansion as we explore taboo topics from mourning etiquette to hair jewelry. This is not intended to be a scary or haunted tour of the Mansion, but rather an opportunity to dig up the history of customs and practices that have since been laid to rest.
