Treatment Services

Dauphin county residents can seek drug and alcohol services in several ways. One way is to contact our office, Dauphin County Drug and Alcohol Services, at (717) 635-2254. We are located at 1100 South Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104. Residents may also contact one of the licensed drug and alcohol outpatient providers that we contract with listed below. Both options will put you in touch with a drug and alcohol intake specialist who will start by asking you several screening questions. Then they will schedule you for a full drug and alcohol assessment to make any referrals necessary. They will also be able to determine your eligibility for any funding assistance that may be needed.

Treatment Levels of Care:

Withdrawal Management Services (otherwise known as Detox)

Withdrawal Management provides clinical supervision and assistance in managing withdrawal for drug and alcohol dependent or intoxicated individuals. Withdrawal Management can be medically monitored or medically managed.

Non-hospital Based or Hospital Based Residential Treatment (Otherwise known as Rehab)

Residential treatment provides an intensive live-in therapeutic environment. The specific program length of stay (varying from 28 to 180 days) is based on individual needs. Treatment subcontracts include various programs, ensuring that clients' needs are met, whether they are adolescents, women, women with children, Spanish speaking only, have co-occurring drug and alcohol and mental health disorders, or are involved in the criminal justice system.

For hospital based residential treatment, there are medical staff available 24/7 to provide care to individuals with medical conditions that need managed.

Halfway House (different from a Recovery House)

Halfway houses provide a live-in combination of therapy and support and are offered to recovering individuals who have completed prior treatment, who may be homeless or near homeless and unemployed or need intensive help for a successful transition to sober, independent living. Self-sufficiency is the goal.

Partial Hospitalization (residential or non-residential)

Partial Hospitalization provides intensive treatment on an outpatient basis for clients with serious addiction problems that have sufficient supports to engage in treatment in the community. According to a planned regimen, services are provided with regularly scheduled sessions almost daily with 20 or more therapeutic hours per week. This form of treatment includes group sessions along with individual sessions.

Residential Partial Hospitalization provides housing for individuals in a structured, sober living environment where their treatment is conveniently close to their housing.

Intensive Outpatient Counseling

Counseling is provided around 10 hours per week and may include primary care or aftercare from rehab. This form of treatment includes group sessions along with individual sessions. There is an initial assessment to determine referral to the appropriate level of care.

Outpatient Counseling

Counseling is provided one or two hours per week and may include primary care, aftercare from rehab, or be utilized as an intervention to encourage individuals to enter more intensive services. There is an initial assessment to determine referral to the appropriate level of care. This form of treatment often offers one individual session and one group session per week. Treatment is also provided for family members affected by another's alcohol or drug abuse.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT – Suboxone, Sublocade, Methadone, Vivitrol etc.)

Medications associated with opiate dependence and/or alcohol dependence, are provided in conjunction with individual and group therapy.
