External candidates can stay up to date by setting up job alerts. Simply select “Join” Dauphin County Talent Community, add your current email address, follow the prompts to “ subscribe.” Once submitted, you will receive a notification when a new position opens that matches your selected job criteria.

No, employees are not required to join a union but may choose to do so if their position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Yes. Dauphin County is committed to providing reasonable accommodation to applicants. Hiring

Employment applications are available on-line on the employment page. Applicants must submit a separate application for each position applied for. The position title and the corresponding position requisition number must be included.

    No. Employment applications will only be accepted for positions that are posted.

    A resume may NOT be substituted in lieu of a fully completed application; however, it may be attached to support your application. Your experience, education, and training must be clearly listed on your application.

    Yes. You must apply for all positions in which you want consideration.  

    The time varies depending on the number of applicants and the type of examinations for that particular job. Generally, it can take about 30 – 60 days from when the recruitment is posted to when a hire is made.

    You may contact the hiring manager directly listed on the job posting to request an application update.

    Yes. You may submit your application for consideration to various positions across our departments. You may be considered by multiple departments for a position. If you have interviewed and received a conditional offer, you may only accept one position.

    • Bring voided check/letter from bank, Forms of ID: Drivers license and SS card
    • If you are adding multiple dependents to insurance: Bring a marriage license, birth certificate and SS card for all dependents 
    • If Opting Out of coverage: Proof of other insurance (card or benefits summary of coverage)

    On the first day of employment, you will be assigned a checklist that includes the onboarding paperwork

    Jobs change over time and the Employment Standards may have changed since the last time you applied. In addition, your application is reviewed based on what you submit on your current application. We do not refer back to previous applications and examinations to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications.

    The probationary period is generally a year.

    • Depending on your role and the department a background check may be required
    • You will not be automatically disqualified if you have a criminal conviction. However,  it is important for you to answer all questions thoroughly and provide complete and factual information. Failure to disclose this information could disqualify you from employment, regardless of the seriousness of the offense. Note: You do not need to tell us about juvenile offenses unless you were tried as an adult. You do not need to tell us about expunged criminal records.
