Shared Ride/Paratransit

Senior Shared Ride/Paratransit is a bus service to County residents age 65 or older who cannot use the fixed route bus system or who reside in areas not served by community-based transportation programs.  It provides consolidated trips between customers’ origins and destinations that are not well served by scheduled route bus service. Shared Ride operates during limited hours and specific travel areas. There is a required application and reservation process. 

Despite being an origin-to-destination, Shared Ride does not provide “taxi,” service and is not a non-stop ride for one person. Different riders are grouped together depending upon their travel time and location(s).   Most Shared Ride destinations are within your home county; however, Rabbittransit also provides regular trips to most adjacent counties based on demand. There is no restriction on purpose so the Senior Shared Ride Program can be used for any kind of trip; medical appointments, shopping, recreation, senior centers, group outings, and more. There may be a small co-pay each time you board the vehicle. The cost is dependent on many variables.

Shared Ride does not provide emergency medical transportation services.

The cost of the Share Ride transportation for registered seniors age 65 and older is subsidized by the PA Lottery. Riders with disabilities under the age of 65 qualify for discount rate under the Americans with Disability Act.

Persons with Medical Assistance Cards are transported to and from medical appointments without a co-payment. The Center for Community Building enrolls and coordinates Medical Assistance trips. 717-232-7009.

FIXED ROUTE BUS SERVICE

Rabbittransit fixed route bus is available free to persons age 65 and older Monday through Saturday. You must apply at a local Rabbittransit office by presenting proof of age. For further information call 1-800-632-9063.

VETERANS

Rabbittransit offers Share Ride/Paratransit Transportation to and from the Lebanon VA Medical Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday FREE OF CHARGE, to and from the Mechanicsburg VA Clinic on Monday Through Saturday FREE OF CHARGE.  For further information call 1-800-632-9063.

COMMUNITY BASED VOLUNTEER TRANSPORTATION PROVIDERS

A network of eight (8) community-based transportation programs designed to serve all persons 60 years or older residing in one or the following communities:
