Dauphin County to Open Application Process for Opioid Settlement Funds on Oct. 1

Sep 29, 2022

Dauphin County is allocated $13 million over the next 18 years as its share of a historic opioid settlement designed to send billions of dollars nationwide to bolster prevention and treatment efforts.

Per the settlement, counties are only permitted to use the funds for addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery projects and programs.

Dauphin County has established the Opioid Remediation Grant program to ensure the awarded funds are spent within the parameters of the settlement.

“The goal is to build and expand sustainable programs that will endure years beyond the settlement period,” Dauphin County Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III said. “We do not want to waste time in getting this money on the street.”

Dauphin County will open the application process on Oct 1. Application documents, guidance about eligible programs, FAQs, and other information related to the settlement are available at:

Dauphin County Commissioners Mike Pries, Chad Saylor, and George P. Hartwick, III aim to get funding to awarded recipients by early 2023.

The Opioid Remediation Grant program consists of a committee to review applicants and award the funding. Municipalities, organizations, and other entities in Dauphin County can apply for grants to support projects and programs.

Last year, 5,224 people in Pennsylvania died from overdose incidents.
