Penn State Extension Master Gardeners’ Veggie Series

Tomatoes ripe on the vine

Growing Incredible Tomatoes 6:00-6:30 pm

Join Dauphin County Master Gardener Melissa Barrick to better your skills growing one of the most popular fruits, tomatoes. She will discuss how to select the best varieties for your needs, as well as how to prep the soil, nurture the plants, control the pests and disease, and maximize the crop. Harvesting, crop rotation, and even small-space gardening are on the agenda.

Pest & Diseases in Vegetable Gardens 6:30-7:00 pm

Join Dauphin County Master Gardener Carol Studer for a beginner course about common pests and diseases that can harm or ruin a vegetable garden. Learning to correctly identify the pest or disease is critical, as well as learning to identify the beneficial insects that might be there as well. This course follows the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and will teach the safest way to prevent or manage these problems.

Selecting the Right Varieties for your Vegetable Garden 7:00-7:30 pm

Join Dauphin County Master Gardener Robert Bauer for a discussion about selecting the best variety of vegetables to grow based on the intended use. Some varieties are better for eating fresh, while others are better for preserving. Choosing the best variety will enhance the taste as well as the enjoyment of vegetable gardening.

Program cost: $5 per participant.
