Damaged Power Line that Caused Prison Power Outage to be Repaired Today

Aug 7, 2024

Harrisburg, PA (August 7, 2024, 5:30 am)---- Dauphin County and its outside electrical contractor, G.R. Sponaugle, will begin repairs on the damaged power line that caused the prison to lose power Friday morning.  The repair requires the prison to be disconnected from the generator that is currently providing full power throughout the facility. As a result, the facility will run on emergency generator power.

This process is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. today, with the scheduled outage expected to last three to four hours as connection is reestablished.

Prison staff are preparing for this scheduled outage by planning meals, medical treatment and other needs. County maintenance staff will also be on hand to provide additional maintenance support.

During the duration of the outage, the facility will be on lockdown.

Dauphin County remains committed to the permanent restoration of full power to the prison and to the continued safety of all inmates and staff.
