Dauphin County Social Services for Children and Youth is a public agency dedicated to the Safety, Permanency and Well-being of children and families.   We ensure these three principles through effective family engagement, community outreach and best practices for prevention and intervention when necessary.   We train and educate our staff to engage in best practices to assure a child centered family focused approach to empower and engage the families of Dauphin County. 

The vision of Dauphin County Social Services for Children and Youth is to move towards more intensive family and community engagement to empower the individuals and families we serve and promote skill to assure the safety, permanency, and well-being of the children of Dauphin County.

Child Safety
The Agency Believes: that the highest priority in all activities and services is to protect children from harm.

Action: The Agency operates on the principle that child safety and well-being is best provided in the context of the family. Protection is provided through the assurance of a safe, nurturing family environment that provides for the individualized needs of each child.
 
Permanency
The Agency Believes: that children deserve a permanent family.
 
Action: The Agency will pursue efforts to assure children's safety and wellbeing, while preserving and strengthening the family whenever possible.
 
Action: If the unity of the child's family cannot be maintained, the Agency will seek a permanent family for the child.
 
Well-Being
The Agency Believes: that children's physical and emotional needs can best be met by their family.
 
Action: The Agency will partner with the family and community to identify and grow resources to meet basic needs to include food, clothing and shelter.
 
Action: The Agency will partner with the families to help the child feel safe and secure.
